The photograph itself carries the entire message.

The memorial figure is nearly completely in shadow, while the rising sun appears from within the silhouette.

Visually, grief has not disappeared—the darkness remains—but light breaks through it.

“… and even amidst the grief and the pain, hope lights the way.”

The distant Manhattan skyline counters the memorial in the foreground.  The city

associated with the loss on the horizon, and the sunrise connects the two.

This image says something quietly:

Even where darkness and loss remain, the light still comes.

The darkness therefore doesn't simply contrast with hope; it becomes the place through which hope is revealed.

Darkness does not have the final word.
